Residents to comment on future road infrastructure plans in the North

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate has initiated a road infrastructure planning project for Lucullus Road; Amadeus Drive; Waarburgh Road and Maroela Road in the Kraaifontein region. The purpose of the project is to ensure existing and future land developments in the Fisantekraal; Joostenbergvlakte and Bloekombos areas are accessible. Residents are invited to submit their comments on the proposed road infrastructure designs and plans by 27 September 2024.
Earlier this month, we hosted engagements with the residents and businesses who will be directly affected should these proposed road infrastructure plans be implemented alongside new developments in the region. Here we discussed the road designs and potential design related impacts these plans could have on their properties. We now want to welcome all residents to provide their input on these plans. These formal comments will be considered before the concept designs can be submitted to Council for approval. For more information, residents can join us at the public open days we have planned for this week Saturday, 31 August 2024 from 09:00 until 12:00 and on Monday, 2 September 2024 from 16:00 until 19:00 at the Kraaifontein Library on Brighton Road,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.
The proposed road designs and plans pertain to the following sections of these roads:
• Lucullus Road from the N1 to Greenville
• Maroela Road from Old Paarl Road to the N1
• Waarburgh Road from Sparrow Lane to Lucullus Road Intersection
• Amadeus Drive from Darwin Street, over the railway line to the Lucullus Road Intersection
'Residents are reminded that this is a planning project, there is no intention for the City of Cape Town to initiate construction of these roads. The outcome of this project is Council approval of the concept designs and any related construction associated with this planning will most likely be driven by the developments in the area.
'The City's Urban Mobility Directorate has prioritised this fast growing region by accelerating and coordinating transport infrastructure planning for the area proactively. There are several planned developments for this region and others that are on the peripheries of the project area which forms part of this planning exercise,' said Councillor Quintas.
